The WA Chief Health Officer has declared a syphilis outbreak in vulnerable groups in the Perth metro area.
There has been a 3 fold increase since 2015 in Syphilis detections; with a 6 fold increase in women of child bearing age.
Syphilis transmission is increasing throughout WA.
Pregnant women and those of child bearing age are encouraged to discuss syphilis testing with their doctor. Syphilis can be transmitted to an unborn baby.
People in the vulnerable groups may be offered testing when they see their doctor.
